BOARD OF DIRECTORS
President & Chair of the Board
I am an eclectic professional. My diverse range of interests include educational institutions, publishing, engineering, staffing services and passenger transportation. Managing communications, human resources, public relations and operations provided me with opportunities that intersected with volunteer opportunities for Calgary Immigrant Womens Association, SAIT, Calgary White Hat Awards, Calgary 88 Olympics Transportation consortium, to name a few. I also enjoy the medium of film, not only watching but also working with creatives to produce. As a native Calgarian, I am excited about the THIRD ACTion Film Fest; and its mission to educate and entertain about ageism.
Board Member & Vice-Chair
I am excited to be part of this up and coming festival. I currently lead administration as General Manager at Alberta Theatre Projects and have developed an expertise in revenue generation for entertainment organizations around the globe. My work experience includes leading teams and marketing initiatives at Tourism Calgary, AudienceView, Alberta Ballet, PepsiCo Foods Canada, and the Professional Employees Association and hold an MBA in Arts & Media Administration from the Schulich School of Business. I am also passionate about volunteering and am looking forward to sharing my knowledge about not-for-profits with the rest of the team. I've been on the Third ACTion Board since the inaugural festival in 2018 and am excited to continue as Vice-Chair with my colleagues.
I am very excited to be a part of THIRD ACTion Film Festival and the vision Mitzi has for the organization. I am a chartered global management accountant with many years of experience across various finance functions in the oil and gas industry and the financial services industry. My personal interest outside of finance and investments are centred around the older generation and young adults and I am keen to contribute and add value to the board in any way that I can.
My love of film began as a young child and has endured over time as I transition into my third act. The opportunity to share stories/information that help others maneuver the challenges of aging is a passion for me. Over the course of my career, I have been involved in many different aspects of teaching, media design and production as well as, working in the non-profit environmental sector. I hope to bring this expertise to my role as a board member for THIRD ACTion Film Festival.
I am delighted to be a part of THIRD ACTion Film Festival. What drew me to THIRD ACTion Film Festival is their focus to celebrate aging and the accomplishments of older adults to help speed along an age-positive culture shift and empower everyone to envision their best third act. This focus, my passion, and belief that life is a revolving door; as one door closes another opens at every stage and age, there is no end, is why I support this organization. I am also passionate about volunteering and excited to put my knowledge, administrative and board experience to work.
I am a lifelong learner and currently a Doctorate of Education student at the U of C working on my thesis "How do we help people learn to work safely?". Returning to academics as a very mature student, ageism is a familiar topic! Helping increase awareness and reduce the negativity around ageism is a natural fit for volunteering in our community in my third chapter. As the owner of At Work Learning (AWL), a learning and development company, I ensure inclusivity in all services AWL provides including an age-friendly focus. I have been a long time subscriber to both Theatre Calgary and Calgary International Film Festivals DocSoup, as I have an appreciation for film and live theater as a means of not only entertainment, but engaging education.
I’m happy to be part of this organization and to support the mission of the THIRD ACTion Film Festival. My love of broadcasting began with my first disk jockey show on CFYK in Yellowknife when I was thirteen. As a technologist and former IBM’er, I’ve done everything from repairing punch card equipment through designing supercomputers to running my own business developing custom scientific and engineering software. I’ve been a long-time sessional instructor at the University of Calgary and have taught at SAIT and elsewhere. Now that I’m in my own third act and officially “retired”, I work harder than ever. I own and operate a video production company. I design and build web-based products.
Executive Director & Secretary
I have never been more passionate about one of my ideas as I am about this one. It took me 50 years to come to the realization that I love working with and for older adults. This project marries my multi-faceted business background with my love for the arts and I am having a brilliant time learning about the intricacies of film festivals and not for profits. I hope one and all find a film or talk that they enjoy immensely and walk away having had a fantastic time.
